Glamor galas – preferably with a size up

The buzz surrounding the Met Gala is not over yet and the Cannes Film Festival is just around the corner: May is all about the red carpet . In the past, stars would drop out specifically to appear as skinny as possible on the carpet. Fortunately, we now know better. Increasingly, it is plus size looks that are the get favorites lists from Elle and Vogue. They are simply the most amazing – and thanks to your curves , you can have them too.

Iskra Lawrence, Cannes (2018)

Top model Iskra made her entrance in Cannes with bridal grace and swaying her hips. Due to her reputation for body-positive messages on social media, she was the chosen person to attract attention and deliver an inclusive message: those shapes are allowed.

At the Sink or Swim premiere, every aspect of her stunning body was put on display in a custom Justin Alexander dress. The ivory dress was embellished with countless beads and pearls meticulously sewn from top to bottom. Those skilled details and all that lace and transparency are reminiscent of bridal fashion – anything is possible in Cannes. Will you also wear an angel-white one during your next festivity?

Huma Qureshi, Cannes (2019)

If you're the extravagant type, Huma Qureshi's look at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival could serve as inspiration for your next night out. In a silver-gray dress with large flounces and ruffles, the actress seemed to rise into the air like a whirlwind. At the same time, her dress resembled a chic Greek goddess.

What we can learn from this look is that as a plus size woman you can continue to play with shapes and silhouettes. The conventional idea that this is only reserved for the heroin chic type has been debunked. So go all out with those flounced sleeves and asymmetrical accents . You can show what you've got.

Keely Shaye, Met Gala (2023)

The woman of 007 can't help but have an incredibly strong appearance, right? Just like in the films, Keely Shaye is a woman with style and self-confidence and that became immediately clear during the last Met gala. The journalist looked extremely glamorous in her long bodycon sequin dress that fell to the floor and was covered with a sheer polka dot cape. Pierce Brosnan was none of it.

This example was from Monique Lhuillier, but you can come close to Keely's 'wow' effect with less special brands. Start with an elegant black dress and add as many details as you want, for example this black cardigan with crocheted back or a wide belt made of black leather . The fact that it stays with one color is actually strong.

Paloma Elsesser, Met Gala (2021)

There is no such thing as too much red at the Met. Paloma Elsesser knew this all too well when she arrived at the "America: A Lexicon of Fashion" ball, the 2021 Met Gala edition. She turned heads with her custom-made scarlet Zac Posen dress with pleated satin bodice. She completed that ensemble with luxurious Ana Khouri jewelry. All in all, she looked like a Disney princess.

Now that may be a bit too ambitious, but you can learn a lot from the stars. What Paloma has understood very well is that you just have to let your curves do their job: steal the show. A silhouette that, as they like to say in movies, fits like a glove is always a good idea. You can do this by accentuating your waist, such as with this coral-colored dress or this white voile version in ballerina style .
